It wasn't mega necessary, since you could infer most of it already (Mikasa was probably eventually moving on, and the entire series is built on a cycle of violence that probably wasn't just arbitrarily ending), but I thought it was decent to fill in a few gaps that the first ending didn't quite hit at. Gonna be honest, I don't think any ending to the series was ever going to be popular. Just by nature of how the conflict panned out, either major result was probably always going to be controversial. I liked the ending for what it was overall, and I think that the series overall is still great. --- Winner of the Third Hacked User Contest. Either you become a Breaking Bad or a GoT, but that's an extreme. AoT was never good to begin with, but it was certainly as popular as those types of shows Also it just got a shitload of animation budget, probably because the manga won a bunch of awards. Honestly the manga is kinda fucking hard to digest and frankly not even that well drawn. The sketch style to me feels extremely lazy more than stylistic because the manga doesn't actually use the sketch style in any way. It's just a thing the author did because he's not good at drawing lines or some shit. Yet it won a shitload of awards.
