Never realized until Legendary Edition how the game subtly pushes you towards killing him.

Absolutely no one on the team trusts him if you talk to them on Virmire before talking to Wrex. The game really tries to make him seem like a guy that's abandoning you

Obviously I always appeal to logic and keep my bro alive, but too many people probably stumbled into his death over the years. Probably not as many as who accidentally install the IFF in ME2 before doing all their loyalty missions, but still.

From their perspective he is. I mean he's clearly justified in doing so but if Shepard hasn't proven his loyalty of course Wrex will screw them over. He has to make a big sacrifice to let Shepard blow the place up.

And I totally get it. The game just doesn't do much to sympathize with Wrex's view up to that point. I'm pretty sure I killed him too the first time I played it in 2008.

The genophage storyline being so barebones and how incredibly racist Ashley was were two things I had forgotten during my replay of the LE. Is getting the family armor needed in order to save him?

I remember being surprised with how much it did seem like killing him was sorta the way to go, but my Shepard was no fool. They knew Wrex was awesome and kicked ass. Feel like everyone did.

If you have max Intimidate from going Renegade, you can keep him alive that way.

Also pretty difficult to save him unless you do his sidequest. And the game doesn't really indicate in advance that "hey do this or your squadmate is gonna die"

Yeah it's definitely all delivered through Wrex. Which I think is fine really. It's crucial that Shepard has gotten to know Wrex and trusts him in order to talk him down. If not he dies. I like when Bioware does stuff like this. Party members should have their own motivations.

It's fun brutal if Shepard does kill him damn. Then having the option to say to dumb his ass in the swamp is so degrading. Not the most ruthless end to a Bioware party member though.

The logical action is to kill him when he pulls a fucking gun on you out of nowhere.

This always makes me laugh like crazy.

Anyway, I don't think the game pushes you to kill him. I did his mission before Virmire and everyone wanted Shepard to calm him down except Ashley who just wants to kill him. If you kill him, everyone except Ashley says they wish he listened. The options for killing him come out of nowhere too I feel like. If you kill him or signal Ashley to kill him Shepard makes no effort to calm him down and then if Ashley kills him on her own Shepard doesn't even get a chance to calm him down.

Moral of the story is, Ashely is a bitch. Does Kaidan have a better story than her in ME3? I'm really contemplating killing her on my NG+ file before I carry it over to ME2. The only thing that makes me want to keep her alive is that she gets hot in ME3.

I think Retsu's point is that its pretty clear that Wrex has an issue with the genophage deal and him freaking out over everyone's talk of stopping it is what makes him that way.

Ashley is the safeguard that ensures Wrex can't kill Shepard. If she kills him without Shepard's approval Wrex would have killed Shepard. She only kills Wrex on Shepard's signal or if the dialogue options didn't convince Wrex to step down.

I'm not saying Wrex's reaction is wrong. I'm saying at that point it makes logical sense to take him down.

I had max paragon and renegade and also did his quest beforehand. I don't feel like the options had Shepard try to convince him at all for Ashley to kill him on her own. You have to go out of your way to be a dick to him for the option to kill him to even come up. Is it different if you don't have those options?

Yeah for sure. Honestly I don't think anyone in that situation handles it wrong from their personal perspective. They're all protecting their own interests and every outcome is justified.

She doesn't need to be convinced of it. She's keeping an eye on the situation and if you don't pick the right dialogue options that calm him down she'll put him down so Shepard isn't killed. Game wise this is so Shepard is never murdered during dialogue because he didn't pick the right options lol. But yeah if Ashley kills him it means you failed to convince Wrex.

I'm not talking about Ashley. Ashley is just salivating at the chance to kill any alien so I get that. I'm talking about convincing Wrex. I'm saying the way the dialogue goes it's like Shepard didn't even bother to try to convince Wrex to stand down because you have to specifically be a dick to him when Ashley steps in.

I don't remember if the game shows that Ashley is watching if you choose the wrong neutral or paragon options. It might not since the game knows you're probably not trying to kill Wrex and wants his death to be a shock if you fail.

I'm pretty sure Ashley is watching the entire thing because she doesn't trust Wrex and thinks it will go bad. But she does give Shepard a chance to calm him down. If she didn't he'd be dead as soon as he raised his gun.
