Wasted 20 years, hundreds of thousands of innocent civilian lives, $6.5T just to have zero exit plan and have the same government move back in the day after we leave.

A colossal waste of time and lives.

Absolutely pathetic and abhorrent

God bless America

They showed a video of them fucking around on the gym equipment in the palace on a military site I still follow.

one of the comments was along the lines of damn, the weights put up more of a resistance than the ANA lmao.

I didnt deploy to Afghanistan but this shit is just as disappointing as when we pulled out of Iraq and ISIS just ran through it. Almost worse since at least the Iraqis kinda put up a fight.

Hey now, don't forget that it made a bunch of weapons manufacturers an absolute shit ton of money. Probably a lot of other shady companies, too.

See, it wasn't all bad!

I cannot personally attest to the accuracy of this, but I was reading a post online saying that immediately after the invasion of Afghanistan the Taliban mostly dissolved and most Taliban members abandoned the organization as a lost cause. And that it wasn't until a few years later that membership started to surge again as a response to US occupation.

I'm definitely interested in learning more about the Taliban specifically after this. There's lots of talk out there about the corruption and ineffectiveness of the Afghan government, but not as much about how the Taliban specifically were able to maintain such influence and power while in hiding.

A lot of it is being blown up (huge waste imo, but it would be a logistical nightmare to haul it all back, plus getting people out is the priority right now), what remains falls into their hands.

It sounds like Joe might be considering bombing our bases and whatever else could be useful to the Taliban thou..

Well, that military equipment could very well be used to end a lot of human lives in the future, either against a new U.S. invasion force (you know we'll be back eventually, lol) or against a resistance force trying to rebel against Taliban rule.

Yup. Should've gone in, wrecked their shit, hunted Osama to the ends of the earth instead of letting him get away, wipe out the Taliban leaders that aided him, then said, "if you ever fuck with us again, we'll be back and it'll be even worse." And then left.
But taking down Osama and his enablers was never the goal of Bush/Cheney or the military industrial complex. It was more like a convenient excuse for their real goals...

It's not uncommon for the property to be left due to the cost and risk of removing it. He's talking about property EXPENSE not potentional for lives lost due to the property.

I wonder how much that property is the US property and much is the Afghan armies property. I mean, all the aircraft is for the Afghan army (although, it is useless to the Taliban) and most of the M4s that the taliban soilders are carrying around look very new, almost like they never were used, which makes me think that they got them from a Afghan army stockpile, since the US ones are much more used typically. It would be hard to preemptly destroy the Afghan army stockpiles if you thought they where a going concern, which our intelligence community thought even as far back as early August, since we sent the Afghans a few blackhawks around that time.

We even F-ed up on that part of the war. We had Osama in our sights 3 times, but since the US military is such a bureaucratic nightmare the ground troops where not authorized to attack him. Instead, they had to wait around for hours for the special forces to be briefed and arrive, which of course gave Bin Laden time to escape. So, Bin Laden escaping the biggest man hunt in history had less to do with him being the nephew of Harry Houdini, but rather our military being grossly incompetant. It was a similar thing with Sadam, until he decided to stay in one area.

Honestly, we need to stop this lobbying shit in general. I was reading about how Rand Paul had stock in antiviral companies, and how because of that he would financially benefit if COVID got out of hand and more people got it. Now it makes a lot of sense as to why he was down playing it and shitting on masks. The more people get it the more he make$.

Can't blame Trump on this one

1. Biden had zero objections to the withdrawal
2. Biden ended plenty of Trump (working) policies and could've easily done so with this one too

It's good to see Biden taking as much heat over this from all sides as much as Trump would have... well, except from the Speaker of the House who would've called for another impeachment of Trump (who instead said Biden should be commended for the withdrawal and that the world is watching the Talibans actions)

The evacuation has been going well, but this doesn't do much for at-risk people who aren't directly affiliated with the USA, like LGBT+ Afghans. From what I've read, multiple governments are being asked to organize getting such people out of Afghanistan, but I would be surprised if such efforts went as well as these.
