You're crazy if you think an anonymous message board counts as social media >_> This is just a place for people to talk about random topics with strangers. We don't know who each other are, we just talk about ideas and shit.

Social media is way more narcissistic and self-centered. All your info and your face is out there, and it's all about stuff like what I am doing right now, or this is what I think about that, or check out this thing I'm eating, etc. You don't see that shit on CE except from outlier users.

I don't have social media but I have fake accounts that I use to "study" people from different socioeconomic status. I feel a greater appreciation for the things I have when I look at profiles in developing countries that are happy and making the best with what they have. Before social media, I NEVER had any real perspective of the people living in different parts of the world besides what was presented to me through the news. Now I can search for a random person living in Egypt and get a feel for the person's way of thinking.

I'm not a weirdo, I promise.

But on the flip side, I think people who are obsessed with social media, see social influencers (or maybe even some friends) flaunting expensive lifestyle choices frequently and get angry or depressed that they can't do that >_> It can definitely be unhealthy especially at a young age.

I guess it depends on how you use the platform to benefit you. It's like going to college to get an education or to just party in the dorms for the "college experience". Those that are obsessed with influencers are probably in the latter. Those who want to study the human perspective are the former.
