Obviously not. We've had proof for a decade that the NSA unreasonably searches and compiles info on all Americans all the time for everything. Cops are allowed to lie, trick, manipulate, do whatever it takes to make you give up your 4th amendment rights, when they even pretend to hold to the pretense at all. Even seizure is kinda fucked, with just officials taking money from people if they can't explain where they got it from (which is actually fucking insane if you think about it), imminent domain, etc. and so.

Not really a big surprise though. America doing America things.

the failure is trying to apply a 300 year old document to modern situations. shit needs to be rewritten, because letting random assholes in the government arbitrarily "read" the constitution whichever way then want like religious nuts "read" their religious texts to suit their crazy shit isn't working.

Letting people change that document will only make things worse. Do you really want modern day republicans to be able to change, or worse remove, the amendments that keep us safe from them?

well they're slowly killing everyone with their "reading" of the current constitution at this point. cant see how it could be worse to force the states to weigh in on rewriting the constitution.

I have no confidence whatsoever that a rewritten Constitution, or even just an amendment superseding any part of the Bill of Rights, could be better written by today's politicians, if they could come to any agreement in the first place. "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated" is pretty good.
and yet those rights are constantly tested because maybe "papers" dont account for digital information or shit like that.

the fact is that document was written before electricity. before communication across the country could be done in under a second. before anyone beyond a land owning white man was even allowed to vote. before guns could be fired more then once every 30 seconds. before anyone had the mad idea to grant citizenship to a corporation. and because we dont have a document in place that allows for rapid adaptation for the changing times we see little change in it, so its left to assholes to "interpret" the "intent" of a bunch of ancient assholes.

so i'd say i have no confidence in the system in place today. because its built on a 300 year old rotting corpse.
