Are land lords really as vilainous and nasty as people make out? Are they monsters?

But two have completely ghosted me when I asked for my deposit back

I rented from a company called Invitation Homes. They were bad.

Thats the only time Ive ever rented.

Before my wife and I moved into our current apartment we spent a few months living in a motel. The lady that ran the place was terrible. If you had guests over after like 6:00 she would call your room and ask why they are there. One time the maid spilled cleaner on the floor staining the carpet and she tried to blame it on us and make us pay for it, which wasn't possible since we didn't keep strong cleaning stuff like that around. Once our apartment was ready and we told her we would be gone at the end of the week she kicked us out the next day, saying we broke the toilet (which was fine when we left for work). Then she put a new lock on the door and wouldn't let us have any of our stuff. We got ahold of the sheriff's office and they sent an officer over. When we told him we still paid for 5 more days he told her either refund those days or let them get in and move out. We still got cheated but I just wanted away from there.
