I know America would've lost face after the WTC attacks, if it didn't do SOMETHING, and that would've severely weakened America, but the whole Afghanistan affair was just stupid. I know it's easy to say this in hindsight, but the Western obsessesion with invading countries to "civilise" them and do some "nation building" is bad. Thoughts?

at least it took out Al Quaida and the Taliban to the point where they couldn't safely carry out terror attacks on the west anymore from there. Staying there for 20 years was a waste apparently.

Eisenhower literally warned us about it in his farewell address

Arms and manufacturing companies make a mint out of being at war and having an overblown budget.

They fund major political campaigns who in turn create conflicts that make them money

The politicians sell this as "Patriotism " like you did in the OP, and with a campaign on steroids from all the funding get support

And the cycle continues

That's why you get the government military contracts where screws cost $50

That's why more tanks are being produced even though they are useless and the army doesn't want them.

Thats why we spent 20 years in Afghanistan accomplishing nothing. Because there was 3 trillion dollars to be made

People seem to forget that "spending " that money by default means someone got paid

You see the same cycle on a much smaller scale with the war on drugs and private prisons

We know full well this shit makes no sense and doesn't work but it generates enormous amounts of money for interested parties.

This is what gives socialists and communists all the ammunition they need. When the enemy propagandist doesn't have to lie, you're in trouble
