I purchased an item on eBay based on the sellers description, though it was not as described when it arrived. Naturally, I sent it back and was issued a small fraction of a refund from what I originally paid. I then asked eBay to step in to force the seller to refund the original amount, so now I am waiting.

Assuming eBay sides with the seller, would this be the exact situation where I would open a dispute about the charge with my credit card company?

most likely. Your cards terms and conditions could be different, but this would generally be a valid charge back.

this pretty much isn't a thing anymore.

Boom! That's right, this is all happening! You cannot change the channel now!
Of course I'm paranoid, everyone is trying to kill me.

I guess we will see. I just got off of the phone with my credit card company and the customer service agent said I can claim if eBay fails to issue a full refund. They dont even need screenshots of the discourse or anything.

Looks like I win again. Picked up the full refund today, glad I was able to settle that without going through my credit card company after all.
