During my early teens I would exclusively listen to metal, nu-metal and punk. I basically wanted everything to be loud and fast in some way. These days I can't remember the last time I listened to a metal album. Add to that, I kind of cringe at some of the nu-metal and punk given the immaturity of the lyrics but a fair amount of punk still remains in my library. Back then I was allergic to relaxing, slow tempo music outside of doom metal but these days I seek it out in other genres.

I've moved more into metal and farther away from radio pop and rock.

I kind of strayed from Rap in the early 90's. So I guess there is that.
Other than that my progression, no pun intended, has all made sense.
If anything, I huge 20 year study of Bach would be the largest change.

~But I still like just about everything I used to listen to.
Maybe, liking and appreciating The Doors, but not ever listening to them anymore would be something.

rap and r&b have always been my genres, but when I was in my teens, I used to listen to metal sometimes just because I might catch something on a music channel that would resonate with me.

but without having turned on a music channel in a bunch of years, I don't branch out as much.

I still listen to the same stuff I listened to in 2001, even though I cringe sometimes at Limp Bizkit or Linkin Park, especially the lyrics, but the music still holds up for me. And throughout the years I discovered new things, got into heavier music like death and black metal, got into The Rolling Stones, got into some electronic stuff, hiphop,...
So my preference hasn't really changed, it just became broader.

I listen to a stupid wide range of music, but the big 2 are by far Deathcore and Rap, so pretty much the same as middle school/high school for me

It has, I went back in time as far as music went and it wasnt until this year that I really decided to look at the 2000s onwards that wasnt Kanye Best, Young Jeezy, and very few rock bands. Its interesting really because Ive heard those Mac Demarcoish sounds take over and blend into indie/hip-hop type chill vibes among other amalgamated music. Ive also been letting myself actually connect with lyrics.

I was always pretty bad with that as far as band music went, in the rap world it was something I could relate to because of the things and people I was hanging out with at the time.. but really letting myself feel out lyrics of the past for my life that werent strictly love songs has been a real treat for me
