It's 62f right now with a slight breeze, saw some leaves changing and even turned on my electric baseboard heater this morning to warm up. The only thing left to do now is get a pumpkin spice enema.

I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to winter here. It will be my first PNW winter and I'm guessing it will entail rain, but with fall temperatures all winter I might dig it.

I walked through the door with you
The air was cold
But something about it felt like home somehow
And I, left my scarf there at your sister's house
And you've still got it in your drawer even now
Oh, your sweet disposition
And my wide-eyed gaze
We're singing in the car, getting lost upstate
Autumn leaves falling down like pieces into place
And I can picture it after all these days

I remember swimming in a small lake just outside of Northville.
I knew a front was coming and was probably going to be my last chance to swim for the year.

And right on cue, at about 11 PM...because yes I will swim into the night...a breeze came in that was markable cool than everything that day.
That was the moment when I knew Summer was over.

My parents have been hemming and hawing about moving to Florida. I figured that breeze must have come in because they got a fire lit under their ass now to get down there. They realized time is running short.

Relevant, one of my favorite Bradbury quotes from The October Country:

That country where it is always turning late in the year. That country where the hills are fog and the rivers are mist; where noons go quickly, dusks and twilights linger, and midnights stay. That country composed in the main of cellars, sub-cellars, coal-bins, closets, attics, and pantries faced away from the sun. That country whose people are autumn people, thinking only autumn thoughts. Whose people passing at night on the empty walks sound like rain.

Like up and moving entirely?
If not, I would certainly stick around for Fall.
We/they earned it.

But ya, the weather has been obnoxious. We went from late jacket weather to a few reasonable weeks.
Then straight cold again, like 40 degrees at night in July, and then straight back to legit tropical heat and humidity.
At the moment it is a nice early fall type of weather.

But ya, the weather around her basically schizophrenic.

He retired in May. Said it was the worst decision of his life lol. He doesn't have any hobbies, he basically lived to drive from Spier Falls to Feeder Dam to Finch Pruyn and back.

I don't know how me got up to Spier Falls in winter. I did do it once, but it was just snow, and my car was great in the snow...and mountains.
There really isn't an easy route. I suppose they must priorities the road keeping because of the damn.

So, did you live by the Feeder Damn?
I assume he worked at the paper mill as well then.

So every like 3 weeks he would be on call. I've gone up with him all the way to Conklingville Dam in the middle of a blizzard at night. It's like a 40 minute drive one way, that was a terrifying trip. His truck had 4WD but man those twists on Spier Falls Rd. He used to talk about getting called out at like 12am and it was like one minute he was warm sleeping in bed and 15 minutes later he's out on the dam in subzero temps chipping away at ice that's blocking the intake racks. Guess it was worth to him, union wages and double time he was making like $80 an hour on those calls.

Their house is near that Speedway off Rt. 9 near exit 17 if you know what I'm talking about. Down Reynolds Road/Rt 197.

There's a hydro plant inside the paper mill, which is where he worked. I did an internship for Brookfield in college and have been in there a few times, it's fucking gross.

~Ya, In an Ice storm I can't even imagine trying to get to Spier Falls...there is basically no easy way.
((Side note: Did you know that is one spot where The Hudson flows due north...outside of the tidal Hudson anyway, but at that point it is Fjord))|

I do love that The Hudson runs in your father's veins though.
I'm surprised he didn't work at GE at some point.

Ya, you take a right at the Hess. I've been down that road many times. There used to be a Toy Train store on that road. You might not remember, but your dad might.

That little island after the bridge has some history.
...And not just dredging. ...That was a shit show.

I have a friend who lives probably less than a minute's walk from the train station in Fort Edward.

My whole family is originally from Watertown. He did a semester of college but decided it wasn't for him and got a job at a hydro up there and eventually moved to SGF. Well, Ticonderoga at first (which is where I was born in 89), then SGF like a year later.

Ahh, you are from Watertown...or your family is. That is North Country for sure.
My family on my Moms side was a GE Family. And on my Fathers side, it was electronic-based as well.
