Kinda curious about this, too. I recently discovered a 19th century author by the name of Edward Bellamy who wrote about socialist utopias in the year 2000, back in like the 1880s or so (and apparently he predicted such things as credit cards and television?).

His cousin (also a socialist activist) was the guy who wrote the Pledge of Allegiance

Oh what, really?? I only found out about him by reading this book about experimental communes in Oregon over the years, and apparently one of them was named after him. I am really bummed out about the book though since it goes into a lot of relatively superficial details imo rather than... actually explaining what these societies were all about.
