I watched it as a teen, and it was one of my favorite shows, since it's on netflix now, so why not?

Now roughly a decade later, this show hits so different that i get and somewhat relate to the experience of our group of weirdos. The themes and feelings i was too ignorant to notice as a kid now hits like a truck. I just finished ganymede elegy, and the ending got me really sad, sympathetic even to both jet and alisa. In one way, faye's remark at the start was right that jet was too full of himself that his ex would still have a thing for him, but man being left like that really hurts too.

I get where alisa is going with her "when i was it you it feels like i am just a child clinging to your arm" which probably hits harder if you're a woman. Now that i have a relationship with a woman, i really get that as a man, that they are people too with their own wishes and aspiration. Seeking to be independent. It does vary within individuals, but yeah i didnt get the nuance at all as a kid, so watching it as adult with some more life experience on my belt renew how i see this show overall.

Tl;dr: cool show about cool space cowboys kicking ass is actually is a cool show about sad space cowboys trapped within their past and their preconceived notion of themselves, unable to break free.

I think most of the navigation are done with computers, while for other maintenance, i dunno it does look kind of filthy

Yeah, I can never remember the names of the eps (except for Pierrot le Fou, since the eponymous movie is one of my favorite films), but the ending to the ep with Jet and his ex really stuck with me.

I almost feel bad for the new live-action series because it's one thing to just post up the new series while people are just kinda thinking about what they loved about Bebop, but to just drop the anime on Netflix a few weeks before so people can very easily make direct comparisons seems like an unwise move.

But what do I know.
