Who's your favorite?




Also what's your favorite sanity effect?

In retrospect, while the file erasure is an old favorite, I think my current favorite is when you complete a chapter and it gives you a sequel hook screen for "the next game in the series", implying the game ends there. Hits better these days.

the best sanity effect for me in high school was the volume bar going up and down. Because my TV had literally the exact same style. I remember being all high the first time I played and thinking I had sat on my remote and was looking for it for like a minute lol

Xel'lotath was my favorite ancient.

the sanity effect I liked the most was the one where the character appears overwhelmed, and has a heart attack.

You'd have to be crazy not to go with Mantorok.

And yeah, the sequel screen was my favourite sanity effect. But it only works once.

I mean what is it about the game?

The puzzles are largely uninspired. The combat is clunky. The story is okay but it's honestly pretty standard Lovecraft stuff at the end of the day.

And this is me saying it as a guy who still finds it incredibly charming (I wrote a guide for the dang game).

Is the game entirely carried on its aesthetic, framing, and sound design?

Because if so, that's amazing kudos for those elements.

I bought it on a whim and played maybe 30 minutes and thought it was bad.

I just shelved it and like a year later a friend said it was great and give it another shot. I did and loved it after that.

I guess after getting into the magic more i was having a blast. The magic imo is really what sets it apart. Sanity is a non issue cause it a joke to keep it high.

Aesthetic, framing, sound design, generally likeable or at least interesting characters, fairly novel combat, weird meta nods.

It's that thing where it's clearly a person's vision brought to life, rather than a focus-grouped product. Some individual parts are weak or generic, but as a whole it becomes spectacular.

I wonder to what extent they planned on having the vast majority of the voice cast be the voice cast from MGS Twin Snakes. Like did they just schedule them for similar times for recording or was it just the same agency, or the fact that Kris Zimmerman Salter was the director for both?
