It definitely picked up a lot since columbine so it's clear it had a big impact on the frequency, unless you think it's just a coincidence. Bad parenting is also a huge problem because no one wants to discipline their kids anymore. Also our cultures dismissal of mental health (though that has been it's own problem since ever). And what really rubs that extra salt in the wound is not having any way to pay for it at all. Having mental illness means not being able to have my job. Having no job means no health insurance.
