He really feels having anything but a white male in a video game is pandering to politics.

People like this are just stupid. Its like, if you walk outside in most places youll see more than one raceso why then is it so absurd that you see more than one race in a video game. Fragile white people like this are annoying.

tbqh I doubt having that many women in rainbow six siege is realistic,

maybe 1%.
like I know S Korea has some women in special forces

I mean if you want representation then at least make it mirror reality.

Its a childhood friend who Ive known for almost 20 years. He gets all of these views directly from his older brother.

If he likes and respects you, then just be yourself. Show him your lack of fear, show him your heartif thats lost on him, what will your words do? What do words do against the non-stop flow of bitterness on this site?

Im a kind, forgiving and gentle person, IRL. Ive had hard friends in the past appreciate that about me and in turn, attempt to emulate behaviorand Im the way I am now in part because Ive done the same.

If hes just another, I am who I am, deal with it, then deal with it. Be his friend regardless or move on. I had a really racist friend a few years ago, and I mean pure, unadulterated hate. For awhile, I dealt with it by pretending I could accept it, but it wore me down over time. Eventually, I left his life. Havent talked to him now for almost 5 years.

Is the friend anti-vaxx too? There's usually a correlation between whining about these two problems.

Honestly though, you won't change anything with your friend. He sees himself as a victim who is under attack which is just insane.

They arent going for realistic demographics, theyre merely allowing the players to play who they want to play as

Here's the other thing about it.... when you talk to them 99 percent of the time things will be like the always have. But when you start getting into certain subjects that's when you'll start getting frustrated.

I have multiple friends that are anti-vaxx. Some of my closest ones. In fact one of them got Covid, gave it to his 80 year old grandma and she died and he STILL finds a way to blame vaccinated people. He says "vaccines are supposed to stop it, how did I get Covid from a vaccinated individual if they work? Try to explain that's not how this vaccine works and then that just goes deeper into anti-vaxx BS. I know your situation isn't about the vaccine but really it's kind of the same thing.

So what do I do? Just avoid talking about vaccines with him. Our friendship is normal 99 percent of the time still.

Really all you can do is say your piece, try to point out why they are wrong and it's up to them to accept it. If they won't you have two options, keep being friends or stop the friendship.

Some women do look rather masculine. And it's good to have women with different body types: muscular, thick, thin, voluptuous, etc. I'm not a fan though of designing every female character to look like a man with a slight breast bump. The one-size-fits-all approach is wrong no matter which type is chosen. Women are not all princesses. They're not all G.I. Jane.

The complaints about diversity and inclusion are completely invalid. Your friend is just being bigoted. It is possible to be entitled to a point that you feel someone else getting something is a slight against you. In that case, you can always ask. "If you didn't always have characters who were like you, wouldn't you want someone you could identify with?"

If they back off a bit, they'll realize they're being selfish and they might quiet down about those sorts of attitudes. If they come back swinging, they're willfully bigoted and there isn't much you can do about that.

Underrated post here, and its what TCs friend needs to hear.

Your friend is most likely correct when comparing the game roster to real life roster. There aren't that many women in these kind of forces, thats a fact. But he needs to realize the game is providing a span of choices to reflect the player base, not the real life spec ops makeup.

Thats just for gender though. Isn't Siege international? Having a ton of different races makes total sense for this game.

So other groups getting more representation is being perceived by his brain as a war on white people.

How you fix that I have no idea because people like that tend to get super defensive and wont hear you out.

The Authoritarians has a great section on this. The answer is essentially exposure. The more a person is exposed to cultures and people outside their initial us-grouping, the more likely they are to become accepting of that culture and people over time and ditch their initial built in prejudices.

Of course, this doestt always work. Its just a youre more likely to be accepting type thing then a hard and fast rule. But thats basically the secret sauce to stopping bigotry.
