Thankfully I saved little but before and doubly thankful the crash didnt wipe my save file.

But it's a real copy, I know this because I can trade with it. I dont see why a legit copy would freeze out if the blue like that and it's never happened before.

Yeah, that game is screwy in my experience. My save file got corrupted and I have no idea why. At least your save is safe.

Edit: Oops didn't notice this regular Ruby and not Omega Ruby lol. My Omega Ruby was the one that got corrupted.

If you're speaking of a legit GBA cartridge, I'm guessing the thing is facing age. I'm surprised the clock battery is even still working. Pretty sure the battery in my Sapphire cart died, though I recall my Silver cart still working at that time, so that was really surprising.

Was the move Thunderbolt used? I've heard some copies of the game can crash with it sometimes.

If it's a legit, physical copy (not a legit digital version being emulated on a newer system / etc), then stop and think about just how old that cart - and possibly the hardware it's being played on - is at this point.

Must be between 5 and 80 characters, cannot contain special characters or Trumbles or be in ALL CAPS.

Age shouldn't be a factor here. Cartridges last a really, REALLY long time. The worst you can expect for the gen 3 pokemon games is that the clock stops functioning.

The cart is almost 20 years old by now. Even if you were to replace the CMOS battery, the cart itself likely doesn't have much life left in it.

No I was on my bike in Mauville heading back to Cycling Road when the game locked up and all game sound stopped. Just out of the blue no warning.

The game uses flash memory not a save battery so even if the battery dies it can keep saving. The only thing effected by a dead battery is the clock, which is pretty important, but it wont delete your save or anything like Gold and Silver did.

You don't know what Duncan does with his cartridges.

why does this matter ? Im pretty sure I ended up with a non legit copy a few years back (based on how the label looks), and I was able to trade and move my Pokemon to HGSS
