Do you tip Subway workers?

I've been to multiple locations lately and they all have a tip jar or an option on the screen before paying with a card. They're not doing anything different, why should I tip? I'm pro tipping btw, but there are boundaries.

it's purely optional. i don't eat at subway. the costs have increased it's 8-9$ for a footlong sub.
can get the same thing at a supermarket and it ends up better.

I tip drive through cashiers... Especially if they're old enough to have kids.

Just today I got a chicken bacon ranch meal at Arby's. $11. Gave the guy a 20 and said keep the change. Those people don't get paid nearly enough.

Don't know what to tell you. Last time I got a good sub (Philly steak) it was $13 and change. Last time I went I got a "value" sub a spicy Italian or something and it was still $9. Firehouse is actually a little cheaper if and it's a much better sub plus the hot sauce bar

They literally just raised the price of all subs by 50 cents no sooner after the Ukraine invasion started. And they won't go down with gas prices.

Been eating subway for a long time. Even the lowest tier sub is $7.29

And they won't accept coupons if you get 2 upper-priced subs.

So if anything, deal with it. I never expected tips in 11 years of fast food, and I can count the number of times on 1 hand. Well maybe two hands.

Inflation is bottoming out the scales on an already terrible labor and wage/benefit imbalance. Corporations will rush to make their workers "heroes" and "essential" again which is why they deserve your tips, not a raise. But they'll also jack up the prices and cash in insane bonuses and stock buybacks.

I hate this shit man.

Depends. Subway is kind of cheap. And even if we have any local sub places, I usually cant get the same thing. At least, the sandwich I like

When I worked there, Id usually ask them how much. Or say something like, Say when. Or just ask if it was enough. Theyll usually let you know

When someone "tips" a doctor, it's called a bribe and happens in some countries -- where people won't even get an operation if they can't afford to "tip" the doctor. It's not a good place, to be.

We had a tip jar when I worked at one ages ago. But it was more or less a "if you don't want your pennies" jar more so than anything. We also tend to take from it if the customer doesn't have a penny on them so we don't have to give them 99c in change.

No, that's becoming more of a thing but lots of places don't do tip pooling. One of the main factors in restaurant kitchens being understaffed imo. I've been here about 5 3/4 years now working my way up from a dishwasher. Imagine doing 200+ people in a tiny kitchen with only two cooks and a menu that's like ... 6 or 7 pages? While being expected to keep up daily soups, specials, and homemade desserts along with the endless daily prep. Imagine making roughly 60-65% of what the servers do per hour (on average, even less on weekends) when some 20 year old girl with no restaurant experience can just step in as a server, have little idea what she's doing, make 5-10 mistakes a day (and just blame it on the cooks so her tips are unaffected), and take literally 20+ breaks on a literal Sunday when I've got 3-6 tickets at a time for a block of like 4 hours. With all due respect, you'd have to be an idiot to be a line cook.
