I just kinda realized how underrepresented it is. At the most, it's always about Orochi or demons/oni or lesser beings. But never really about the other gods like Amaterasu, Izinagi/Izinami, Susanoo, etc. They're often mentioned and stuff but never really adaptations or explanations about their stories.

I'd welcome any anime or foreign stuff. I don't have much ears when it comes to anime unless it gets super hype like Demon Slayer, AOT, etc. That's why I'm asking lol.

Even as far as games, the only kinda prominent one I know of is Okami. I didn't play much of it but at the very least you play as Amaterasu.

Literally 100% of anime has some elements of Japanese mythology start with noragami, God of high school or something like that. Something overt and fairly obvious. The big religions in Japan are Shinto, Buddhism, and Christianity. So pretty much anything is going to have something. I'm guessing you're looking more for the Shinto, or Buddhist type stuff along with Japanese myth and folklore in general.

Any anime that's not just sports is gonna have this stuff, even if you don't realize it.

Just watch some anime and when something spiritual esque pops up Google it. You'll get a huge wealth of information

Okay maybe there's a disconnect with what I initially said lol. I'm aware of elements here and there through stuff. Persona 4 had Izanagi/Izanami in the true ending. I know Naruto is a big one that references Susanoo, Tsukuyomi, Orochi and whatnot. Hell, the Nioh series does it greatly.

But I'm looking for more than just elements and small pieces here and there. I'm looking for story/plot based on the actual mythology. Maybe Itachi is right that I just don't realize it because I don't know any of the stories like I do with Greek mythology, but yeah.

Again, try noragami. If that isn't obvious enough, maybe the tale of princess Kazuya or princess monosuke to start.

You're gonna have to read at somepoint

I'll third Noragami, some pretty decent references to a lot of Japanese mythology there.

If you're not advert to reading manga, there's also the Munakata series, which basically explores a large number of Japanese myths, legends, and history.
