LGBTQ+ issues are legitimate and deserve serious, thoughtful consideration, but I have a hard time believing you honestly think theres nothing else to talk about.

I had this argument with my dad once and it was the surrealist thing

He was ranting about Gay Pride Parades and doing the whole "I'm not homophobic it's just why do we need to parade like this in the front of the kids!? Where's the straight pride parade!" and he was like "Name me 1 single rights the gays don't have."

And the first thing that came to my head was hospital visitation rights. There were cases of husbands and wives not being allowed to visit their spouses who were sick or dying because they were same sex.

And my dad was like "Oh I didn't know that. We really need to fix that, then get rid of the parades."

And it's just like... what kind of mindset is this? He's cool with the parades until hospital visitation is sorted but once it is the parades are wrong again? Where equality in his brain is literally a checklist and once ticked everyone needs to shut up.

Sounds like what happens when you are old and regularly consume conservative propaganda but arent miserable and paranoid enough to hate gay people.

Influence from that and the older time you grew up in lead to bigoted actions without the raw hatred. Bigotry of habit and media influence.

There's no real right to compel someone to not spout angry blathering, at least not in 'Murrica.
Best that can be done is prosecuting for terroristic threats or something similar, but "they should be lined up and shot" is a completely different thing than "i'm going to shoot them".

Honestly, and this sounds very "I have a black friend" of me, but by brother-in-law is gay, and (jeez, this sounds so damn cliche, but it's true) my wife played sports in college, so I have a pretty decent amount of gay men and women in my circle of friends. And a good majority of them are longing for the day that things like Pride Parades aren't necessary, and the LGBTQ+ community is just so universally accepted that they now longer have to be so "in your face" about their sexuality.

But, unlike having Pride in your nationality, as no one really bats and eye at Irish, Italian, Puerto Rican, etc parades, religion will forever be the hurdle the LGBTQ+ community cannot get over to ever be universally accepted.

I actually kind of disagree

Even when LGBT becomes accepted in the US, fully accepted and full equality. It still won't be in Europe, Africa, Asia etc.

And gay pride/being in people's faces will help shift the other nations too

There's a reason why Russia and Saudi Arabia keep having to ban every 3rd thing that comes out of the US. They know once LGBT acceptance trickles in, it'll upset the conservative otherism power balance
