It really is quite bothersome how so many have latched onto this case just because it's seen as vindicating the belief that men are just as routinely victimized by domestic violence as women. Yes, Heard was abusive, possibly even more abusive than Depp, but this was very much a mutually abusive relationship and they both just need to act like adults and walk away.

I have been called everything under the sun, I've been bullied, I've been suicidal, so I've been there, and I've found this is the best way to get past that. The reason so many kids/teens take their life over words is because they take them more seriously than they need to be taken. Someone calls you a sack of lard don't get down, just brush it off as the opinion of someone asshole that doesn't matter.

Your personal experience doesn't extrapolate to everyone else.

More like this has helped me so I think other people that are struggling with that should give it a try. I have a ton of sympathy for suicidal and bullied people, I've been there. Generally speaking, "just shrug it off" is thoroughly useless - if not outright harmful - advice for people struggling with definite mental illness. It can sometimes help some people, but overwhelmingly your default should be to sympathize with the person instead of trying to make them feel like a failure for caring.

I wouldn't try to make them feel like a failure for caring though, and I do sympathize with it. Which is exactly why I want them to learn how to stop caring about things they shouldn't care about. I'm not saying it's wrong to care or that they should feel bad about caring, I'm saying they should put in the effort to stop caring about about what some asshole says because they really don't matter.

What would you tell you kid, buddy, niece/nephew, etc. if someone came up to them and called them a stupid piece of shit loser? I would tell them fuck that guy, their opinion doesn't matter at all and you are great so don't let it get to you

Besides what everyone else here already said to you, Id argue that verbal attacks can be especially harmful when theyre coming from someone who has physically assaulted you.

I feel like they would be less harmful, if someone assaulted you why would you give their words any credence? That seems like the best reason to completely discount everything they say
