Hopefully more states start following suit.

Its a start, but Im not celebrating a non-livable wage, which is what $12/hr is.

I like it but also hope shitty restaurant owners don't steal their server's tips.

Businesses will start skimming tips but probably overall waiters get more money this way.

Exactly. If you cant pay your workers a fair paycheck, then you shouldnt be taking profit for yourself. You almost always see the owners of the businesses in brand new luxury cars and they always own their own home, but they wont pay the servers enough to rent an apartment.

So small businesses get killed and all that is left are the fast food restaurants that do this?

If they get 12 hour (which is good for them) then Im not going out of my way to do bigger tips. My max would be 15%. Also eating at restaurants will become much more expensive which will drive down volume of customers.

The previous hourly wage was not appropriate, but going to 12 hour for tipped wages is an abrupt jump for businesses and will be for consumers as well.

This is extremely illegal and will most likely not happen as it's easily proven

I'm sure there will be some hardship attached to this but it's a step in the right direction and businesses will adapt

What do you think tip pooling ultimately is?

They 'divide' it up between all the staff but without extreme transparency, it'd be easy to skim off the top of a pool of money you have to divide.

Good, it's about time the U.S. restaurants get with the times when it comes to server wages/tipping. Some business would probably fall over if this becomes widescale, but plenty will adapt. Who knows, tipping might someday actually become *gasp* optional.

Alberta did this years ago and small business didn't die.
Lots of places have the same minimum wage for servers as everyone else, and they all still have small business.

Pure fear mongering from people that think $2/hr is enough to live on, and that wages should be subsidized by the customer.

If a business can't afford to pay its employees, they don't deserve to be in business.
Period.
