I take care of people with dementia diseaes who still lives in their own homes. They were 95 years old. And it was their time and got great care from us and a peaceful end.

I will never forget.

Their favourite food was liver stew. I used to hate liver, but thanks to me cooking it I learned to like liver and its now a favourite.

Sorry for your loss since it sounds like you do a good job of empathizing and caring for them it must hurt a bit even though they were part of the job.

Thanks, but it doesnt hurt because we helped to give a meaningful life until the end, its beatiful somehow.

Actually it wouldve been 11 years this winter not 9.

That's a nice way of looking at it. I'm glad you can feel good about having helped.

I have a guy I'm caring for now who's close to the end. Military veteran who told the doctors to pound sand when they wanted to take his leg, that he "came into this world with all my parts intact, I'll leave it the same way."

It's tough, especially because you get attached to them.

That's what all the assholes who call elder care workers "glorified bedpan emptiers" don't get: We shoulder a portion of the burden for our patients, whether it be physical, mental, emotional, or all three.

Elder care workers (like basically most Healthcare workers) are drastically understaffed, underpaid, and underappreciated.
