I think most people just don't care about pronouns. I don't care what you call me and if I accidentally call someone else the wrong thing they shouldn't throw a tantrum like a child.

I don't agree in the first place that turning bigots behavior around on them for the purpose of making a point is in and of itself inherently bigoted... if it were, in this case it would still not be transphobic since it can be assumed that the targets of this behavior identify as their assigned birth sex.

there's a difference between honestly messing up here and there and refusing to use someone's pronouns because you're a transphobe

I think most people absolutely care, but that some either literally don't know what pronouns are or just really hate trans people.

I'd say the average person would absolutely get annoyed if you continually called them the wrong pronouns or never used their correct name.
