They were originally an evolution of the PDA. The first thing dubbed the smartphone was the MPX200 by Motorola which had Windows Mobile on it. This was in 2003. PDAs had touchscreens and touchscreen smartphones weren't far behind the MPX 200 as the MPX 300 from 2004 was touchscreen. The first iPhone had a touchscreen. --- "Fear cuts deeper than swords." ...
