Not weird

I don't have a TV anymore, just a large-ish PC monitor

I have 6 tvs and 2 computer monitors (both bigger than 21 inch) in my house.
And a projector.

I think it's weird to not have a TV or a computer, unless you are a monk or something.

Boomers more likely to have TV only, millennials more likely to have a computer only

Hasn't been weird in any place with high speed internet, and people young enough to know cable is bullshit.

Not weird. There's a TV in my house, but I don't watch it. I basically stopped watching TV on an actual TV well over a decade ago.

Just to answer this topic I don't think it's weird at all. I don't personally own a TV, but I do have a "smart monitor" that comes with a remote and runs smart TV apps. It's 32". I hardly ever use the TV functionality on it though. I think if I had more guests I would maybe want to invest in a proper TV just because it's traditionally the central focus of the living room.

yeah it is weird af.

I'm computer person but I have it hooked to a television. I think this practice is becoming more common now that 4k oled 120 hz tvs exist and gpus are becoming more powerful and support the hdmi 2.1

Wouldn't that by definition make it weird?

It's unusual, but it's concerning when someone tries to frame unusual things as being bad or good

Those are the same thing. I hate that people put weird in a negative light. I feel I should take some blame for using it that way some years back.

with smart phones, computers (laptop or desktop), streaming, YouTube, etc., TVs aren't as "necessary" as they once might have been.

Unusual in the west, but I don't believe it's accurate to label as "weird".

Mobile phones are not replacing TVs quite THAT fast, nor has it become a majority trend.
And many consumers still prefer a large screen as ideal for home entertainment.

Alternative electronics for media viewing have come out over the years, but none of them have really dethroned the TV as a staple appliance yet. Commercial innovation hasn't achieved that yet.

Given the rise of smart phones and tablets, I can see TVs becoming more of a niche thing for some people, depending on their lifestyle. Definitely out of the norm, but not weird.

A monitor is the same thing as a TV for all intents and purposes though. It's stupid when someone tries to claim they don't waste their time watching TV but then spend hours staring at a phone or monitor watching videos.
