Upgrade your carrying capacity ASAP, that stuff fills up fast

The skill that lets you slow time while aiming is probably the first one you'll want to get, followed by Silent Strike

Nothing that isn't somewhat blatant in that it's locked off from you until later, and once you get access to it you are expected to abuse it (such as explosive arrows and traps). The closest I can think of is that the game lets you go to the expansion/DLC area somewhat early (I want to say it's when you get access to the whole world but I don't really recall) and you can buy extremely overpowered gear versus what you would have normally.

Use foliage/plant cover at every single opportunity
Don't even bother fighting the large machines like sawtooths until level 15
Dodge often
Use tongue but hole

Nice, it's the complete edition so I'm definitely hitting that up. Is it easy to afford or whatever, no clue how the game works.

The expansion has a collectable currency (Bluegleam) that is found all over the place and is used to buy the stuff from the expansion. So if you have a map it's pretty easy (well, if you are good enough with the controls to not just insta-die to every enemy that you encounter ~.~). It also doesn't take all that long to accumulate enough to be worth it. For instance, it only takes 12/14/18 Bluegleam to buy armor that is on-par with the armor that you are only able to get in NG+ (the different sets are for different benefits, so technically you kind of want them all if you want to really min-max the whole thing out).

I didn't find the status system to be well explained, so I'll do it here: hitting an enemy with a status effect causes an icon to appear above their head. You have to fill this icon before the status effect actually takes hold. Sounds obvious but I thought I was inflicting the status effect and then it was depleting, but it was actually just filling up.

Speaking of which, status effects and precise targeting of weak spots are key to the combat in this game. You can just kill an enemy by firing arrows at it, but it will take forever.

Fast traveling requires an item, but once you get into the main world, merchants start selling a reusable one.

Don't neglect hunting animals, that's how you upgrade your various inventories.

Been a long time since I played, but there's some ability where you can (from stealth?) attack enemies that fall down, I think, and gouge them with your melee spear. I remember it being pretty awesome when it's levelled properly. Enough to one-shot some middle-tier enemies and downwards, which saves time. I think it also does a lot of damage to those panther robots or whatever they are.
