Also, why would someone want to throw away their life like this? What is the logic, if any, behind it?

Not really, because I recognized that they're obviously busier in their lives and had to reprioritize things. I valued those friendships enough to put extra effort into them to stay in touch.

Those friends did the same with us when we had our kids, too.

their life no longer is about themselves and instead is for the child. This is in no small part due to chemical changes which occur in the brain:

The father is not as affected as the mother.. however as you can imagine reduced sleep and encouragement from the mother generally forces change and reshapes his perspective as well.
