Honestly, I stayed away from horror movies for a long time, because to childhood me, they were like 90% boring and 10% jump scares. So my mentality was "they're boring, so why bother." But I've watched some more recently, and... they're actually not bad. They're a fun ride if you get invested in the story and the characters and seeing if they make it out alive. This year, I've only seen Black Phone and Smile, but they were both entertaining.
