Boda Borg is basically a place with a series of "lite" escape rooms. Instead of the usual escape room fare of picking one room and trying to solve it in time, you pay for the time to go through the entire facility. It's mostly based in Sweden, with seven locations there, but there's one in Ireland, one in Switzerland, and one in Massachusetts, which is the one I went to.

Once you begin, you're basically given free rein to explore the "questing" area. In the case of the one I went to, there are 18 quests, and you can take them in any order. Each quest consists of three rooms to solve, and you have to take those three rooms in order. You are given little explanation and are typically expected to fail at least a few times before you figure out what you need to do in the room. Failure means you have to leave your room for the main hall, but you can go right back in if you want. Obviously teamwork and discussion are encouraged.

Depending on the quest, it's possible to complete a room within like ten seconds if you know the answer, so it's not like each room has a bunch of mechanics/locks/etc. Usually there's one thing to solve. If you can solve the entire sequence of three rooms, a box unlocks that reveals a stamp that you can use on your stamp card. That's all you really get out of it; bragging rights.

The rooms are actually quite well done, and incorporate light sensors, pressure sensors, touch sensors, timers, etc.

For example, one quest we did was called "Potions", and it was in a darkened medieval themed setting where we had to touch the correct potion bottles in order to trigger the exit door.

Oh also unlike most escape rooms there's a degree of physicality to the quests.

There are basically three colors of doors you can choose for quests:
  • Green doors are entirely passive. You won't have to do anything physical other than touching or manipulating objects.
  • Red doors have some physicality in that you might be asked to crawl or climb on things.
  • Black doors are more physical in that you might be asked to hang from things, move quickly, or dodge light beams.

Anyway, my work group split into four teams (you have to be in teams between 3 to 5). Our team cleaned up by finishing four quests within the two hours. Not bad for a bunch of new folks. :D

We tried like ten altogether, but a couple stumped us and others tired us. ^_^
