Not sure how you guys cant tell the difference. In this game for example youre essentially just battling in the overworld whereas SwSh had an actual battle scene separate from the overworld that you explore.

I was battling a flabebe yesterday and its so small it just blended into the environment, I could barely see the thing. Whereas in sword and shield you wouldnt get that cause the battle scene is a lot clearer and the Pokmon are shot from a much better perspective.

Also sleeping Pokmon no longer close their eyes? Again people will call it nitpicking but things like this ruin the immersion SwSh was actually great with a lot of things it did, not sure why they didnt just build off of that.

This is what Im talking about for example. I know the camera can be rotated here but its still not the greatest, and add to that the textures of the environment in the battles dont look as good as those in SwSh and I think you can see what Im talking about. Looks like a downgrade.

I like battling in the overworld. It makes it feel more real, I guess. I have lost sight of a Pokmon before, but my Pokmon didnt, so it didnt matter much Not to mention, as long as I can see the health, Im good

It adds immersion for me, if anything. But either way, it does take any. Like I said, losing sight of the Pokmon didnt bother me at all Its not like I had to aim at the Pokmon to attack it. I think its fine

they "look" fine to me, but i really hate the camera. it always seems to put itself somewhere stupid and needs adjusted every couple of seconds to see anything. it feels like a half-assed version of arceus.

you can move the camera around in battle

and the models are noticeably better than before, pokemon actually have textures now.

the environment detail is also better than sw/sh, since it's not flat textures for everything anymore either.

honestly, the only thing bad about them so far is just the performance. this is the game everyone expected sw/sh to be otherwise.

Maybe they'll extend that 1 year development cycle.

yeah funny enough I stumbled upon that this evening and you can click the right stick to put the camera behind your pokemon again. Ngl that actually makes the game a lot more bearable now

there's quite a bit more between generations than 1 year

the team that worked on sc/vi isn't the team that did arceus, for example, nor is it the team behind the sw/sh dlc. sc/vi started development almost immediately after sw/sh

Oh I thought you meant like the core mechanics of battling. Yes, graphics-wise and aesthetically, SV looks like the alpha version of a Gamecube game. It's an extremely ugly game, and doesn't run well on top of that. TPC needs to take a fucking chill pill and cool it with the "we need a new generation every 3 years!!!" that worked on handhelds because making 2D or 2.5D games on a handheld is way WAY easier than making a huge 3D game with thousands of models and animations, and everything else on top of that. If gen 10 came out in like 2027 on Nintendo's next console, and it actually looked and ran well, I would be so hype for that. But as it stands, until TPC/GF get their shit together on this stuff, which I don't expect to happen, I don't think I'm buying Pokemon games on launch again.

i feel like what they achieved with this game is the proper evolution of the bog standard tired generic pokemon world formula

open world? fantastic, it's what everyone wanted and what everyone expected sw/sh to be

but there needs to be more stuff to actually...do and see. as it is, there's no reason to even explore like 60% of the map.

co-op? yes, absolutely, but it needs to be way more fleshed out.

they also need to speed things up. i would argue that this gen is slower than original ds diamond and pearl, and those were already considered the slowest in the series. things need to be streamlined here. there should not be seconds of waiting between actions during a battle. i feel like how they changed the raid battles is a step in the right direction since everyone just goes whenever and you don't have to wait for them anymore, but extend that to everything gamefreak.

Imo pokemon should just straight up go back to 2d. The 3-year dev cycle is way too intense for pioneering a new 3D engine.

Maybe they should do what Tales did for a while and split into two teams, with core personnel working on the current game but other staff working on two games simultaneously? One 2D and one 3D, with each team having a 6 year dev cycle. I know you can't just hire more people and have the problem magically solve itself, but there should be tertiary staff working on things like rigging the models or developing art assets ahead of time.

And here's the thing. I'm actually having fun while playing it. But I recognize that it is a deeply deeply flawed game that was nowhere close to being in a releasable state. I am going to keep playing it for a bit, shiny hunting and stuff, but it doesn't have the staying power of Sword/Shield. This game's competitive scene is going to be dead on arrival. Which really sucks because a lot of the new abilities and moves and Pokemon, and terasterallizing are all really cool, and has the potential to shake up battling in a big way. On paper this should be the best Pokemon game. And unless they take the time to fix it and improve the playing experience and performance and put back in some things they removed like the ability to play set style and skip animations and the like, this game is going to be a serious black mark on the Pokemon franchise that will negatively impact the entire generation and beyond.

i have a good friend that loves pokemon as much as me but they absolutely shut down when faced with any sort of criticism. happened with swsh, not gonna try it with them with SV

like if you cut out the performance issues this game is an easy 7.5/10, make texture resolution/distant views better it's a 9/10. but jesus we need to talk about the issues

SwSh, for all its flaws, did a number of things way better than SV. I legit dont know why they wanted to reinvent eating food in such a shitty way, nor why they wanted to make battles occur in the open world (it just looks worse), and gym leader boss fights are visually so much worse...

It ruins the immersion for you as opposed to teleporting you to an arena that doesnt look anything like the area you were just standing on besides the terrain?

This is... exactly what the players wanted. For years they have been asking for GF to move away from traditional games and the games media universally praised PLA. Monkey's paw applies and because GF could barely strap together the Gen 6 and 7 games, of course they could barely strap together an open world Pokemon game. Hell look at the disaster that was BDSP. It was a mess of a game and it wasn't even a "real" 3D game.
I like the growing idea that GF should just return to 2D sprite-based games, but kids these days do not want that kind of game. That would be pandering to our generation and not to the people who actually buy the merchandise.
