She's not 14 and old enough to have her own cell phone.

She's still a little kid that hung out with her uncle playing with LEGOs. ;_;

Doesn't seem that weird to me. Kids these days all have phones. She won't talk to you once she is a teenager so don't worry about it.

While I'm still dreading it at some point, I'm not sure if my niece is the type to not want to ever hang out with me. She's a really emotionally intelligent kid.

Her little sister, though. She'll have her teen days when they get here.

My niece has good taste in tiktoks. Soul reason I don't hate on tiktok. She hates all the stuff we hate on it.

I think the 3 of you missed the point of the topic, which was tc lamenting that enough time has passed that the person he still conceptualizes as a itty little baby is old enough to have a phone and text him.

i was super close with my niece until she turned ~14, then she stopped having any interest in talking to me. I've been there for her a few times since (she's 22 now), and done some nice things for her, and I saw she appreciated them, but the relationship has to change--they have to find an identity separate from family. I was okay with it.

parents who are able to give that space usually find that they get their child back as a friend later in life. i think extended family have to understand that they probably don't, unless there's a specific shared interest that binds them.

Same, 13 year old nephew. But he's currently grounded and has no phone lol

You should play Gang Beasts with your niece. Me and my niece have 50+ hours on it even though it has super limited content. The fun of it is how the broken aspect of the game is still funny 50 hours in. There's still stuff happening that we never seen

Sometimes I forget that I am not the only old person here. I have 5 nieces/nephews, all college age or older.
