After this latest shooting my wife and I actually had to have a talk. We got little monsters that come with us wherever we go, and the chances of this happening has now crossed over from Not Very Likely to a Real Possibility.

So we discussed how best to handle this situation if it arises and whether or not we want to even risk it, and just have one person go to the grocery store and do the shopping while everyone else stays home.

This countrys unwillingness to roll out universal healthcare, and that includes mental health, is going to be the end of it. Watch and see.

When I'm out in public I always scan for unlikely exits and try to make sure I know where several exits are. Like my plan in a grocery store shooting if I'm not the first surprise victim is to run into the staff area for refrigeration and dip out the back.

Maybe time to start introducing some controls on firearms or

Now its honestly starting to feel like it. Walmart is a place where weve all been to for something or other.

And all these shootings range from far north to down south to all the way west to the east. Their frequency, popular locations, and unpredictability makes getting killed in a mass shooting seem a lot more likely.

I don't know about higher, but you should absolutely be concerned about both of those things. Like if you're not worried about either one of them, that's bad.

it depends what the odds are. there are things of low enough odds that it's not sane to worry about them, like being hit by a meteor. but maybe the odds are high, I don't know.

though I guess this quickly turns into "what is a gun death", and biased and unbiased ways of counting gun deaths, etc.

I can be worried about and accommodate my safety in a number of scenarios.

Don't you have any online delivery grocery shopping in your area?
Here in Canada there are grocery stores that do an Uber Eats type thing where all groceries can be delivered. I know for a fact in the US you can also get certain groceries from Amazon, like pasta, canned food etc.
For things like milk and eggs you can use the grocery delivery thing.

We do. But theres an extra charge and inflation has gotten out of hand. And also, sometimes I dont remember what you need until you walk aisle by aisle and it comes to you.

I assume most people have dumb little stereotypes they think are harmless, like Asian people being better at math. But if you're educated on how society works you can bring of the origin of any stereotype and explain how it started, which will make people around you less racist if only by a tiny little bit.
