So I'll be relocating to San Diego at the start of the new year. I'm currently in NE Ohio near Akron (crackron). I'm thinking of taking the long route, heading south to visit friends in Greenville, SC and Augusta, GA, then going south to meet I-10 at Tallahassee, FL. From there I'd drive west on the 10 all the way to Tuscon, AZ and then grab the I-8 before Phoenix, AZ. This will of course take multiple days and I'd have some cushion on my arrival time. I'm leaning towards it over a more direct route because I'd like to see more of the U.S. and avoid colder weather if possible. This would make the trip considerably longer, however, 3,100 miles instead of 2,300 so I'm still not sure. I'd get to visit a few cities that I haven't been to yet, most notably New Orleans I guess. What are your thoughts?

It took me 6 days to drive from Raleigh to San Diego with some stops along the way.

In January I took I10 from Southern California to New Orleans. Its a long but smooth, easy drive. Youll go by an indoor skydiving place somewhere in west Texas and the town of Tombstone. Bay St. Louis, MS is a lovely coastal area but itll still be cold. And of course New Orleans is worth spending a day or two in if youve never been.

According to Google that's about 2,500 miles. I'm guessing you weren't pushing 10 hour increments or anything. I will probably be lax with the trip as well.

Definitely hoping to meet up with a former roommate in NOLA and get that experience in. I'll keep Bay St. Louis on my radar, thank you!
