I hear about young adults and kids not having any computer skills. I find that hard to believe.

The amount of streamers I see that are tech illiterate is very high weirdly. You would think someone who is stuck infront of a computer doing stuff would know a bit more. Hell seeing so many streamers using winrar or winzip still is shocking.

My niece and nephew game on a pc. But I am unsure if they know how to do stuff other than just turn on the games. My brother was always a big pc expert.

This idea that the younger generations are "tech literate" originated from baby boomers that didn't have the savvy to understand that some millennials were learning computer skills and maybe some coding while being exposed to video games and the modern form of the internet, which certainly doesn't envelop all technology.

I work in video game advertising and it's unbelievable how clueless many 18- to 35-year-olds are when it comes to troubleshooting basic device issues. Just yesterday I had three people approach me because one of our computers lost its network connection and I had to contact IT immediately so they could continue working; not a single one had the idea to check the back of the machine to realize that the ethernet cord was disconnected.

Now you have to understand that kids and adolescents are growing up in a world that further discourages them from being able to problem solve on their own.

I blame all the screeching about "screen time" and parents not telling other people to mind their own damn business.

Tablets and smartphones.

A few years ago kids got exposed to computers and were then ushered into the smartphone/tablet tech.

These are basically just mini devices that can provide easy internet access. Theres really not much crossover to personal computers. Other than maybe the texting keyboards using the QWERTY system.

Kids only use smartphones/tablets and apps, not computers.

I've always preferred WinRAR over 7Zip.

I read about this.

gen x and millennials fiddled with computers and shitty operating systems.

zoomers and beyond have easy ass OS and everything is touch and voice command, they never developed this skill
