I think there's something to gain from tolerance for the intolerant. We already proved screaming people are bad and evil doesn't help anyone. You gotta be someone the person doesn't hate to actually have a chance to have any impression on their perspective. Plus, intolerance can come from upbringing and if you were brought up by tolerant people, you had an advantage

I understand not having the patience too tho. I don't got much going on. So, it's easy for me to practice patience. Where others might have a busy life that doesn't give them time to just sit around and practice patience for others.

It's a pet peeve of mine that people will follow up the topic title with some kind of justification as to how that proves it's ok to take away someone's right to do something. If everyone has a different view, then let's take away as little of everyone's freedom as possible. But the jackasses that scream about tolerating intolerance love that "everything is always on the ballot" because they want to take away rights and then hide behind "Not everyone agrees with those rights". Oh, except guns. Guns are never on the ballot since they are apparently the only natural law of the universe, the only human right. Unless anyone plans on using them to fight for other human rights, despite them saying they own guns to fight back against tyrannical government.

I dunno about silenced. But taken away from positions of power, yeah. Like, it didn't help in the 90s to 2000s when certain people just pretended rascism was getting dealt with when really it was just being swept under the carpet to make the world appear in a better place to anyone in a place of privilege. We need bigots to be vocal so we know it's still something to deal with. Countless times Ive heard people say "Id rather deal with an upfront rascist than someone who acts cool with us but has no intention of actually influencing anything that doesn't lead to them getting attention for how tolerant they're being". Cause one comes off fake and snakey and the other you at least know where they stand.

Bottom line. Silencing voices is just sweeping it under the rug instead of dealing with it. If conservatives weren't so blantant, it would be harder to get people who see through it on your side. Conservatives showing their hand and appealing to a more openly rascist base is a step forward because it's out in the open now. It's just really hard to overcome because the sheer number still down with that way of thinking. But at least we know the numbers now.
