Because not a single political thing can be derived from the concept of timeshares and those who profit from them.

Yes, we all know they're scams (and the piece drops this up front), but here's a deeper dive into the modern concept and how they're trying to rebrand and refocus their efforts in a world where even Spongebob makes fun of them.

And they're still bilking people out of their money.

And guess who else is? The people trying to get people OUT of timeshares!

I hate that I can tell from the artstyle that Spongebob clip is from the post 2005 era. where they went digital and stopped hand drawing it.

Big ups unfettered capitalism.

Speaking to someone about it in the now-deleted topic on 261, I learned that they're caught up in this with their mother, but from what they've talked to lawyers about it, it seems such "inheritance" stuff won't actually hold up legally.

One can literally just deny that portion of their inheritance when the time comes.

So John was a bit overdramatic about that one.

I feel most timeshare funds come from being predatory against people who don't know or have access to these things.

Like, they're banking on people who aren't going to know to check this with a lawyer.

Youre never responsible for your parents debts or obligations. Except for sometimes/in some states they can be taken out of your inheritance.

Remember my wife getting suckered at the hotel we were staying at about "free" tickets if we listened to a presentation. I knew instantly what it was about but unfortunately I wasn't there when she signed us up to go.

Listened to their speech and kept repeating I just wanted our tickets. The salesman kept trying to pressure us into getting in. Lowering the rate, etc. Said we only had that day or we'd be locked out forever. I said good, we're locked out. Eventually got the tickets but damn it was annoying.

I honestly don't think I'm mentally controled enough to stomach that amount of bullshit for free tickets or free anything

I'll do you one better: In the very early seasons of Spongebob (1999-2002?) there was an even older art style that looked a lot better/more organic. At some point in the early 2000s (prior to the "digital" era?), they shifted to a more plastic/clean style.

He mentions that in there, the point is in clarifying just how bad they are, and how you don't even have to buy one to get victimized

I look forward to every Monday when I get off work. I sit on my couch, get ready to enjoy something that is state legal but federally not, and turn on the Last Week Tonight main story.

The one guy who was refused access to his timeshare was pretty sad tbh. Like at this point he knows he was scammed but wants to at least use it.

I used to work for a phone company that deals with elderly client and I saw or heard about this constantly. Makes my blood boil.

Almost makes me wish I'd gone for a law degree so I could focus on elder law, Saul Goodman made me think of that
