When I play Sims I do it in one of three ways

1 - make a sim based on me and make it live my dream life

2 - make Sims based on fictional characters and use Sims as a creepy fanfiction simulator

3 - unleash my inner jigsaw and invent new ways to torture and murder my Sims

i only played some of the gc/ps2/xbox era console ports but the objectives based single player mode made the games fun

that said, i still enjoy free mode or whatever it's called, not on the same level but i could play without getting bored for like an hour and a half lol

My first exposure to the series was the PS2 version. I liked the story mode addition and its controls. I could never get into the PC version because the controls were lackluster. Still, with mods the later PC games can be amazing. Just takes way too much time and effort to set everything up to begin playing. Not really worth it.

From what I understand the later console releases of the game tried to use the PC controls which just fail horribly. Scott da woz covers this topic pretty deeply in his video on PC to console ports I think it was.

3 was so good, it had an actually active world and still had most of the features that 1 and 2 had.

Just horribly slow loading times IIRC. Took forever just to get into the damn game but it seemed to work fine after that. Maybe thats been patched or mods fixed it though, havent played in awhile

I remember it was said back in the Sims 1 days, that women played the Sims for the Sims while men played the Sims to build houses lol. But obviously that isn't true since everyone can play however they want.

I do wonder how these load times are on modern SSDs. I only ever played Sims 3 on an old HDD and it was definitely slow as hell to load.
