Yes.

I enjoy the Disney movie, the silent film with Douglas Fairbanks, the Errol Flynn movie (which I saw in the theater a few years ago), and, yes, Robin Hood: Men in Tights is pretty fun. The Kevin Costner movie could've been a lot better though. That British series starring Richard Greene was also a lot of fun, though I've only seen about 14 episodes or so.

I've also read the traditional stories Robin Hood and Sir Guy, A Gest of Robin Hood, and two others whose names escape me. I have not yet read Ivanhoe, though I have seen the movie. The old one with Elizabeth Taylor.

He's a pretty fun character overall.

Anyone here seen Maid Marrian and her Merry Men?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHVh-Ha7hPs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnOGv36JsZ8

Would be considered "woke" today

The plot was Robin Hood was a cowardly spoiled posh idiot who took all the credit and Maid Marrian was the actual hero (although she's kind of a bossy bitch)

Has a black guy and a midget pulling their weight in the gang.

Both could work in the realm modern day cinema, absolutely, but the point is that theyre not inherent draws and Hollywood doesnt seem to understand anymore how to make them work.

Theres a good case to be made that King Arthur and Robin Hood are the most recognizable fictional characters that nobody really cares about contemporaneously.

I honestly don't know why Robin Hood isn't a more popular character in the modern day. "Rob from the rich and give to the poor" is an INCREDIBLY relatable, relevant, and heroic goal in 2023, as is standing up against corrupt law enforcement.

Robin Hood robbed John because he was extorting excessive and illegal taxes. Nobody really has a "John" today. The wealth inequality of today is controlled by capitalists and Robin Hood has more in common with libertarians than he does with the wealth redistribution movements of the 21st century.

In the recent one with Jamie Foxx as Little John, Robin Hood literally calls for redistribution of the wealth.

Best sword fight

Errol Flynn vs Basil Rathbone? I can't really argue against that. Very few swordfights have the same length and level of fencing choreography. That was compliments of Fred Cavens who also choreographed the duel from Tyrone Power's The Mark of Zorro.

I have always enjoyed King Arthur. I mean, we can see how that classic ol' tale inspired The Legend of Zelda in more ways than one.

It's just a hard case, though because, well, to make King Arthur exciting to people, you have to basically transform him and his mythology into something new (like LoZ). King Arthur himself? His mythology has been explored many a time. The show Merlin was probably a good example of how you can reinvent the story to give it a fresh breath of life, but there's only so many ways you can do that before you do have to ask "Why not just create a new IP altogether where you aren't as limited by the expectations of what should be there?"

Like, imagine a King Arthur story without the sword in the stone being a major part of it? I'd be like "Wtf man?!?"

But a LoZ game without that? Sure, why not. It's cool when it happens, but I don't feel particularly obligated to have such a moment in any individual Zelda game.

Any story where King Arthur is already king can skip over the entire sword in the stone part. That sword only existed to prove his royal lineage. Once he's already king it's just a sword.
