This is certainly a new frontier. Lots of ethical questions about to be asked and debated.

Seems stupid, tbh. At best this is attempting to double charge someone for a single crime. Suppose that's standard for these kinds of crimes, but really should be considered unconstitutional (well, not sure about canada's law system).

Unpopular opinion but I do not support legal action for any kind of animated CP.

It's weird and creepy and I absolutely support judging people for it, but at the end of the day if it isn't victimizing someone I can't justify legal action.

Edit: though apparently he had tons of actual CP so not sad he's in jail.

Also this isn't what happened but I'd rather just edit than delete the post.

Stating that it does that is not testing if it does that. If there's any evidence that animated porn increases the likelihood of offense, i'd love to see it. That would provide the only rational argument for legislating it.
