I don't think there are any current generation actors that actually made it through hard work anymore. Just lots of nepo babies. The charming story of a small town girl going to Hollywood with dreams of making it big might be a thing of the past.

Plenty of people still working today took the long road to stardom. Bradley Cooper immediately springs to mind.

I don't think Bradley Cooper is current gen.

I'm thinking about actors 25 and under. Maybe up to 28.

Any young person who wants to get famous is probably doing it through TikTok and social media now.

Which leaves children/nieces/nephews/cousins of actors taking up the the roles now.

Yes, it is full of nepo babies. And I don't care.

Life is full of nepo babies, in areas that are far more down to earth and real than hollywood, in areas where normal people are actually affected, and nobody notices or even brings it up.

This. The only reason it seems like it is more prevalent now is because of the amount of coverage individuals get because of the rise of social media.

In fact, if anything it is harder for many nepo babies because they get such pervasive coverage from the get-go.

I wish I had the statistics on this but I feel like I've seen stats about how the percentage of people who make it big in entertainment who came from humble beginnings has been steadily shrinking.

I do remember James McAvoy talking about this several years ago. He was saying people from the UK who are becoming successful actors are increasingly coming from prestigious acting schools that working class people can't afford to send their kids to. He wasn't saying that the actors that come from those schools are bad or undeserving, but that if our entertainment comes predominantly from one class of people then it's going to end up reflecting the experiences and concerns of that class and not of the people in general.

Of course you could look at that the other way and say it favors them as well. I didn't consider the "clout" angle. More the "serious actor" angle.

And by "harder" I was referring to harder than in the past before the pervasion of social media - not harder than non-nepo babies. Which is why you shouldn't quote half a post, you lose context.

Being a legacy of a successful actor opens some doors for you, but it doesn't keep you working for long. You have to have talent, and you can't be a pain in the ass to work with.

Not a lot. If you look at IMDB, his credits as an actor are massively inflated by music videos lol. He has "59" roles as an actor, but without the music videos it's only 14 TV shows and movies in the last 20 years.

Yeah, surprised me how bad AE was, but Im not sure how much of it was Jadens fault. Hell, even Will Smith was god awful, and we know he CAN act.

I thought young Jaden was good in Karate Kid so am surprised he apparently turned out to be bad at this

It's not that no one wants to be the next Johnny Depp. It's that becoming a famous social media influencer is far easier than becoming a famous movie star.

Studios don't want to hire people who aren't a part of SAG cause they have to pay a fine for using non union actors

And actor can't become a SAG member until they have gotten work already so it's a hard industry to break into for the average person cause a studio has to think an actor is worth paying extra to hire which is why established names and ivy league graduates have an edge and getting that first acting job they need

The guy who hucked a beer can at Lebowski's head and yelled "THINK FAST LEBOWSKI!" got SAG membership for it, because it was improv.
