Remember when you were a kid and five minutes seemed like forever? But now you're an adult and five minutes just fly by.

I imagine an immortal being like a god or vampire or 1000 year old alien would be like that on a grander scale. Like if you haven an immortal friend who you hadn't seen in five years, you'd be like "yo, how you been? It's been SO long!" But the immortal friend would be like "what are you talking about, it's only been five years."

Most stories/movies/games/shows have immortals perceive time the same way we normally do. Has anything tackled how an immortal would actually see time?

Vampire: the masquerade tries this. Several Vampires exist that have been around for thousands of years. They are utterly in-human monsters. Time is meaningless to them. Going to hibernation for a few centuries is nothing to them. A year, ten years a hundred? who cares? They make plans that don't come into fruition for centuries, maybe thousands of years.

There's lore of Vampires holding grudges for centuries and waiting for the right moment to enact their revenge.

Helena of Troy and Menele are both 3k years old and have been fighting each other for thousands of years.

The first Vampire, Caine is rumored to be like what 100k years old. His direct lineage the 3rd gen are all like 12k years old. All of them are incomprehensible monsters.

Then these super old vampires also wield God-like powers. Caine himself is literally a God and his direct descendants are in-human demi-gods as well.

Then there's one vampire Montano? Who is like 6-8k year olds. As a human he was part of an African tribe that were among the first to come to Europe. He is also utterly in-human. He can't remember what his human life was like. It's been so long. he has no interactions with humans anymore either.

Anne Rice did a pretty good job with her characters. You can really feel their despair at outliving everyone, losing the ability to feel love, losing their humanity, loneliness, etc.

Each character had their own hell to deal with, so it wasnt a one size fits all approach. After about the 5th book I became fatigued with the whining, but in reality, I think it was really about me binging the books one after the other. I just burnt myself out.
