If reddit is banning bots with this third party app thing, do you think we'll see less of these canned responses? I'm wondering how many of the people saying those things have preprogrammed bots to farm karma saying things that generate up votes. And if that's the case, I'm all for the reddit change

Also I'm wondering how much of the blackout movement is being pushed from Apollo or whomever themselves simply to save their business? It's kinda weird how much it's being pushed

Is this actually supposed to ban bots? Like the cost of spamming a relative few messages must be pretty minimal, right? I thought the big impact would be on third party apps that have to make millions of API requests.

If the API is entirely free as is though, which I'm not sure of, then I guess right off the bat it could nuke lots of bots if the operators don't add a payment method

I am not going to bat for Reddit and these changes. I've always just typed www.reddit.com into my browser on desktop or phone and it's always worked. So apps being cut won't affect me.

However for the people that do get affected it sucks. But every dang sub is blacking out in protest it's a little over the top imo. Even the sub for the city I live nearest voted 3:1 to blackout.

I can't argue with good protest if policy changes suck so....I don't know where I am going with this here

Yeah it's one thing for random subs like animals being bros or better call saul to go dark. But like people use the city subs for vital information. The tree of life trial is happening right now and my city sub is going dark. I get people are upset but it's just not even sensible at that point.

Of course if I said this on reddit, my inbox would be blown up with 'yOuR a CoRpOrAtE sImP aNd a ScAb' and I'd be downvoted as much as EA got for the star wars comments.

I know this message board has had more than it's fair share of toxicity over the years and I'm sure I'm responsible for a little of it in the early days but man I wish it was that active here still cause I am hating reddit more and more. Still better than Twitter I guess though

I liked when these boards were popping. CE is pretty busy but I feel like it's a lot less people than in the past. I used to actually get really excited every night to see what was being posted on the social boards here when I was a teenager.

I am really curious though to browse Reddit when the subs do go offline to see what it's like. That could be interesting.
