What makes the Ant-Man series so good is (1) Rudd being the Dad of the MCU and the humor and "aw shucks" that comes with his character, and (2) his relationships and how he handles being a hero as well as a husband/father. Both elements were given way to a CGI-laden mess just to introduce Majors as Kang.

This.

Also, the Modok thing looks awful, and the whole movie is another cutesy meta-narrative exploration instead of a movie. There are no real stakes either, which is a problem with modern MCU that people don't talk about.

It's the problem I have with a lot of modern franchise films, nothing feels like there are any stakes, and at the end the universe must reset to status quo. That's what made the early MCU so compelling, it felt like decisions mattered and threats were real even if you knew the good guys were going to win in the end. Something might happen that shakes things up, or changes a character going forward.

Now we're just doing ironic character deconstructions where the threats are routine and lack any weight or menace... boring.

I'm REALLY hoping that at some point they'll be getting the gang back together for a multi-hero movie. Ever since Endgame, we've had an endless string of movies and shows about single heroes. I know that Iron Man, Black Widow and Captain America are out of the picture, but I really want all this to build towards....something. Phase 4 and 5 seems to be meandering along

Apparently the post-credits scene of The Marvels has Kate Bishop approach Kamala Khan about forming the Young Avengers

And Captain America 4 will have Sam starting a new Avengers team

On top of that we also have Thunderbolts coming as well, so there should be a few teamups in the near future

As for Ant-Man 3, my biggest problem is that it felt like it was trying to do two completely different things at once. It was still trying to maintain the tone and vibe of the more low-stakes Ant-Man movies, while at the same time trying to setup the next Big Bad for the MCU and I don't feel like it fully works.

The Ant-Man movies are at their best when they're lighthearted and smaller scale (no pun intended), so using his movie as a launchpad for Kang was just a weird decision to me. Kang really should have been introduced in something like Fantastic Four. I also feel like having the entire movie take place in the Quantum Realm kinda takes away the ability to do creative set pieces with Ant-Man's powers. One of the best scenes from ANY Ant-Man movie was Ant-Man fighting Yellowjacket on a toy train set. You can't really do stuff like that on an alien world.

That being said, I didn't hate the movie. It was just the movie that made me feel a little bit shaky about Marvel Studios' direction going forward.

And also yes, just like with Taskmaster they completely dropped the ball on MODOK, which is a shame because we're likely not going to see better live-action adaptations for them for the foreseeable future.

Ant Man 1 was okay, I feel like it was moreso Edgar Wright's leftovers that was entertaining. The second Ant Man movie was dogshit - it was a Fine MCU movie but it was a boring, overlong movie that I straight up didn't enjoy.

I didn't watch Quantumania because I split from my Marvel-fan friends a couple years ago. That being said, the movie just never appealed to me. Like HaHa Look At Them Talk to Bill Murray, Very Funny!!! that shit fucking ate ass.

Also, getting rid of the supporting cast from the first two Ant-Man movies (particularly Michael Pena) was a mistake.

Its easier to list whats good:

1 Rudd and the main cast to their best with the awful script Majors was amazing
2 Interesting color grading
3 The story is more or less self contained I suppose

Overall this film is a horror flick pushed off as light family fare. Those arent Micronauts they are listed in the script as aliens. WTF if you think about the implications for more than a secondthis film is basically a speed run through Item World in Disgaia. o.O

Theres a part where Bill Murrays character does something wtf incomprehensibly and unnecessarily cruel and evil with disgusting sound effects added. Later, the survivor grabs him and hold him up and stares directly at the camera for a really uncomfortably long, cold glare. Its weird because its like Scar Jo holding out her middle finger for a second too long in live action Ghost in the Shell and it makes you wonder is this directed straight at the fans? From that point on in this movie I viewed it as a horror film that didnt commit and it seemed somewhat better. Im convinced they didnt make it out alive in the first cut of this film.
