Reddit as a site really is too big to fail and the community is possibly one of the worst communities.
I am temporarily banned from ban evading. I don't think a random bot should be able to prevent me from talking about the Red Sox because I want to talk about a video game.
Not posting on reddit is just such a hit to my ability to socialize. There are no other places to voice your opinions anymore.

I don't use reddit but do find other places to discuss things I like such as posting here. Although granted I don't do that all that much anymore.

he types, oblivious to the fact that he's posting his opinion on some place other than Reddit.

Yes I'm posting on a dead board on a dead site that hasn't been relevant for general discussion since the early 2010s.

he argues, unaware of the fact that his protest does nothing to negate the point Far-Queue was making.

I do find it funny that Reddit killing off third-party apps that no one used triggered a failed mass exodus to nowhere.

That didn't make any long lasting impact.

Back in the day we started a bloody revolution because England raised taxes slightly after funding an entire country.

Back when we had two testes.

since that happened there's been a shift in the content though, you can't scroll the main pages now without seeing a couple of dozen of losers trying to get people to rate their looks

that being said, i use reddit mostly for doomscrolling, kinda like i used stumble upon back in the day

it's just plentiful of content that's easily viewable (i've always used old.reddit.com both on desktop and mobile devices so i didn't get hit with the third party nonsense), but if there's any other similar websites that have enough content, save for a few subreddits, i wouldn't mind completely staying off that site

There are a lot of alternatives to Reddit.

The problem is - and this is something I repeatedly pointed out during the Reddit blackout protest - none of those alternatives have enough users to make them worth using. So most people just keep using Reddit.

It's the same problem with Twitter. People online will constantly whine and piss and moan about Elon and Twitter and blah blah blah, but at the end of the day none of the dozen or so alternative sites (like Mastodon) have anywhere near the user-base, so most people aren't willing to make the jump. But because people aren't willing to make the jump, those sites will never get the massive user-base necessary to make a mass exodus feasible.

I've said it many times: the complacency of internet users in the past 15 years has been a bad thing for consumers. Prior to about 2007, websites would become a household name, and then generally last only a few years before being completely replaced by something else. Think of Yahoo, Newgrounds, MySpace, etc.

Modern sites like YouTube, Facebook, Reddit, and Twitter just seem to get away with the most insane bullshit. Google and Facebook literally listen to your phone calls and randomly access your microphone, transcribe your conversations with speech-to-text, and store the transcripts somewhere in cloud storage to be reviewed to cater advertisements for you.

MySpace died because they were stuck in the past and weren't innovating or advancing their site enough.

I went through one of these phases. I love the concept but I think a lot of it is actually repurposed. Actually tried to track down some of the referenced threads and never found the exact replies that were read in the video.

Sounds like you are yourself addicted to hating on them, if you evaded a ban to act on that hatred. Another reason to go outside.

it's a complex feeling, I hate talking to stupid redditors but I feel like if I don't argue with them, they will grow their influence unchecked, which I also hate.

basically this picture was taking up too much of my life before I quit reddit
