It's still not quite correct to call this a "retirement" but I still get a little teary-eyed at this lovely dedication to Charles from Miyamoto himself.

Man Charles really got old. It happens to everyone but still seeing it is kind of rough.

As much as I give Miyamoto crap these days, I could really feel his gratefulness to Charles Martinet in that little statement he made.

Being a Mario ambassador actually sounds like a nice way to cap off his career. Gets to travel all around the world.

I'm gonna be honest. Confirmation on Waluigi's pronunciation was the biggest thing I got from the video. Also, I didn't watch the whole video yet lol.

There was debate on how Waluigi is pronounced?

Martinet looks older than he is if you ask me. He is still "only" 68, so at first I was afraid that he had some serious health issues, so I'm glad to hear that he is still fine to travel the world and events.

I honestly prefer him getting his "retirement" step by step while still getting a very nice goodbye by Nintendo and the whole community.

And Nintendo had to think about a future without Martinet sooner or later.

I truly think that this is the best outcome for everyone involved, even if I think that it came a bit soon.

I never knew how it was pronounced. Also somehow I must have missed him saying it in the few games I've played with him in it lol. I remember there being a debate here a decade ago on it. Some people said it was pronounced like Wal-wee-gee. >_>

Doesn't Waluigi audibly say his own name in like every game he appears in? How was this ever up for debate?

I feel like the dude has said the 3 catch phrases that Mario says enough times over the years that having an active voice actor isn't really necessary. Job done, you know?

Honestly, it was because of that post that I was confused for all of these years. Before I read that, I always assumed it was pronounced the way that is correct. But that post made me think that whoever intended for it to be pronounced that way did so because they wanted the L to go with the first syllable. So I never knew which way was real.

I think you just fell to maybe recognize a reference to the "Wee-gee" meme and thought someone joking was serious. There has never been a debate about the pronunciation. He says his name in the games.

Very possible lol. It was over a decade ago, but I feel like the topic was "How do you pronounce Waluigi?" But I could definitely be making that up since it was so long ago.

....there's only one way to pronounce Waluigi

Unlike Wario, Waluigi is actually a perfect pun. They combined bad (Warui) with their names. You get Wario, which is like okay, slightly a pun. But you get Waruiiji which has the entire word in there.

I thought Wario was just upside down M. The warui pun was for Waluigi

They cut off the part of the video where Chris Pratt punches Charles and announces himself as Mario for the next 30 years.

Yeah, I don't know if he just wasn't warmed up or what, but he sounded strained trying to do the voices. We'll get used to the new actors. Mr. Martinet has given us decades of his life. He can sit back and be proud of the work he's done and the lives he's touched. I've never met the man personally, but I've always heard wonderful things about him from the fans that do meet him. And he will get to continue that for as long as he's reasonably able.

I wouldn't sell him short. He's bouncing between his usual speaking voice and Mario while standing and giving a speech, which I'm sure is a lot different than being in a booth and getting a chance to warm up plus multiple takes.

I hope Chris Pratt takes up the mantle. Maybe future Mario games will have spoken dialogues instead of textboxes all the time.

Yeah I was gonna say. He really doesn't sound bad at all. It's clear he can still do the voices. You could argue it isn't as good as it used to be but it's still pretty recognizable
