Not surprised. The more complex the system, the more points of failure it can have.

Have you checked the inside of the PS3? They're one of the worst dust magnets of any console.

Had several PS2s get the disc read error.

I have owned a myriad of electronics since the early 80's. LOTS of different things in the video and audio side on things when it comes to home entertainment.

In my entire life I have only had two 3 things fail. A VCR that I wore the heads out and wouldn't play tapes anymore from too much use. My first PC had the cooling fans die and it smoked the GPU. The only other flat out failure was my original PS3 got the classic YLOD after 18 months. That thing was seriously flawed from all reports. My slim that replaced it though still works like a champ.

I never had an issue with any other console (even the famed PS2 DRE) or almost any other electronic in my life but the PS3 got me.

PS2s are solid outside of the disc drive going bad. Even then, you can replace the lens for very cheap.

Yup. At this point, if you haven't opened it up to clean and replace the thermal paste, then you're just asking for it to die unless you have a Super Slim. Even then, it should still be done.

My PS3 still works and I still play it(NCAA 14).

Same with PS4.

In the time I've had my PS3 though had 3 TVs go to heaven ( bought 2013)

My PS2 is like a vintage old (car) beater. Still works but needs smacked around a couple of times.
The PS3 just randomly got YLoD one day after working perfectly the weeks before.

I don't know if ps4 has any issues? Anything as bad as ps3's yellow light of death? Because I didn't know about ylod when it happened to and then my ps3 model YLOD'd on me and not only did it scare the crap out of me, it made me pretty much give up gaming for a couple years since I could neither recover my data or even find a new ps3 anywhere in stores.

My psp is dead. ps2 still alive, dead lens tho. Decade old ps3 slim still works. Ps1 is no longer hooked because android boxes can emulate it full speed, only x1 resolution tho.
