I never saw the anime or watched the manga because there's like 1,000 episodes

But man she's a dumb dumb.

Pirates invade her village and kill half it
She joins them to raise money so she can pay them to "Buy back" her village
She gives them maps that make them unstoppable
She raids and pirates for a decade to steal millions from the innocent
She tells no one what she is doing for literally no reason
Then she goes fullshocked Pikachu when the pirates betray her and burn down her village
Then she tells the villagers not to fight for their freedom because "It's not your fight, it's mine"

I think they were going for heroic noble sacrifice but she just came across as moron. Given her hair I wonder if she's relative of Fry from Futurama

Its based on an anime with contrived drama to keep people watching for years. And to sell merch to children.

Dont put any thought into why anything happens

I feel like in the manga it was shown a bit better that she basically agreed to all of that so that Arlong and his crew would leave her village alone.

And I mean they wanted money, it's not unreasonable to imagine they would move on for a hefty payment. It's not like her tiny village was hoarding mountains of gold. Hanging out there wasn't going to get Arlong much money.

Dey changed it up a bit, in da manga/anime she's basically chained up and forced to do all da mapping, and da villagers all actually know what nami is doing and da deal she has with arlong about buying da village

But iunno what you expect her to do, not even da marines could help her lol, so she went with da deal even doe she knew its only a 1% chance of it actually happening

Also kinda lame that after all that Garp just gave up at the end

but I enjoyed it

Idk man, she concocted her plan when she was like 6 years old in the wake of the death of one of her only loved ones and has maintained her intentions out of sheer fear, anxiety, and inertia. Gotta cut her some slack for not being rational. Besides, this is the same universe where a guy decided to honor his best friend's death by taking up her sword and wielding it in his mouth instead of just swapping it out for one of the ones in his hand that he doesn't have a strong emotional attachment for.

Just a reminder that Oda has final say on anything the live-action series does, so it was OK by him.

I dunno who Oda is so I assume you're refering to the great warlard Oda Nobunaga who 500 years beyond the grave is still important enough to determine anime plots

She had a VERY limited scope of pirates and maybe an ignorant assumption. Pirates are all about money. Get them money, they go away.

there's a ton of shit in One Piece that doesnt make sense and i keep questioning, specially in the anime.

but im able to enjoy it regardless...

I would have massacred those pirates. Id be built diff If I was in the OP universe. I'd be OP af

namis back story is the one change i feel the series made worse

in the manga/anime she DID tell her sister (who told the village) and she was forced to work for arlong as he took her hostage right after killing her mother

I haven't watched the episode but are you talking about the treasure hoard she was collecting to buy back the village? In the anime, a navy officer did some trickery and stole all the treasure, forcing Nami to start over.

As others stated, in the manga, she did tell the other villagers about the plan, so she at least had the emotional support of the town. Additionally, the Arlong pirates in the original series were significantly more "laid-back." They were probably raiding other islands off-screen but I don't remember them planning any sort of offensive against anyone in particular. *manga spoilers* The original series basically shows that Arlong "retired" to the East Blue after getting his ass handed to him by both an admiral and Jinbei. Really her main screw up was telling Arlong she had the money before she had the full amount ready to hand over. He definitely would've done something to keep her working for him, but it's not like he actually cares about the town or anything.

the whole show was garbage idk why you're complaining about a singular character lol
