I don't watch any of them but I see how popular they are with the services I use. They are always the most popular show with those services.
I'm amazed people are not sick of this stuff yet.

When you pay $4 billion for something, you want to milk it for all that it's worth.

Especially when you're running it into the ground so hard you're fully aware that you're not going to be able to milk it indefinitely.

Also, don't get confused and assume the viewing numbers are as strong as you think they are. Disney tends to massage those for PR purposes (ie, announce initial viewing figures for the first episode, then don't release further figures - while outside sources are pointing out more than 50% viewer drop-off over the course of the series; or saying that something is the highest-rated show on your service without releasing numbers for the other shows, so there's zero context).

It's been pretty well documented that viewers as a whole are kind of growing disinterested with both franchises. Each successive series and film seems to do worse than the last, and engagement as a whole (via things like merch sales) is plummeting.

Disney is in trouble, and it's fully aware of that fact. The real question is whether or not they can pull out of the dive in time (like they managed in the 80s), or if we see some form of buy-out or takeover as the endgame of all this.

Nobody is watching them anymore either. MCU has become garbage since phase 3 ended. They stopped writing like they used to and now are focused on shoehorning in as many poorly written female characters as possible.

Inclusion is great and all, but it's like the writers are more focused on making sure every female is flawless and instantly the best hero on screen that it gets boring. Imagine Tony Stark starting off as Iron Man, nailing his first test flight, never touching a drop of alcohol and also never have profited off war. All 20 of the female characters introduced since Phase 3 are pretty much like that and its boring.

Why can't writers go back to writing compelling plots? Marvel has been hiring a ton of crappy Rick and Morty writers (young people) and its bleeding the franchise dry.

Star Wars has been doing the same thing, its very much a Disney issue. Then they wonder why movies like GotG3 exceed expectations and shit like The Marvels flops. If The Marvels actually introduces a unique villain, doesn't focus too much on that annoying teenager, and actually has a character arc for any of its characters then it might actually be better than most expect. But sadly, early preview screenings have come back so negative that the producers cut 20 minutes of the film so theaters can run it one or two times more per day hoping to make more money that way than if it was longer and could earn money from fewer screenings like their longer films used to.

Nah, this is going to turn out worse for them than when they produced The Black Hole to compete with Star Wars. Decent, slow burn movie, but the ticket sales were low and merchandise became glorified landfill. Ironic; now it's their handling of Star Wars that will fall lower.

Black Hole wasn't really made to compete with Star Wars. It was more that it was made to exploit Star Wars' success (much like Battlestar Galactica was). Star Wars opened a lot of doors for cheaply-made sci-fi in the late 70s/early 80s that would otherwise never have existed. Some of which was good, even if most of it was kind of crap.

And Black Hole was an awesome movie, and only failed because people are stupid. People went in expecting "DISNEY!" and got weird creepy existentialism and lobotomized robot people. The dissonance led to a lot of negative reviews (in the same way that people hated The Cable Guy because they went in expecting Ace Ventura or Dumb and Dumber and got dark comedy instead). But if you ignore the context and just watch it as its own movie, it's pretty great.

It's sort of the same scenario as to why Who Framed Roger Rabbit got released under the Touchstone Pictures label - they were afraid that people would be put off by the darker nature of the film if they released it as a straight Disney film.

I don't think that's really avoidable in today's market, no matter how much they churn out. With so many streaming services and so much of the interesting content being carved up between them, it overwhelmingly makes more sense for people to rotate between services every month or two as they finish watching the stuff they're interested in, rather than maintaining multiple subs and only ever watching one at a time. Companies know this, which is why you see so many services increasing their prices but grandfathering existing subs in under the old prices with the condition that they'll give up that "promotion" if they unsubscribe.

The streaming bubble can't keep growing forever, as much as corporations and shareholders want to cling to fantasy that it will.

Disney can't figure out why viewership of movies is down after they took them off streaming.
Disney can't figure it why they are losing subscribers. So they raised their prices.

Disney might just be run by idiots. They deserve what's happening to them now.

There's good stuff here and there, but I find it's just too much. There's a lot that I'm interested in watching, but so much of it has prior movies/shows to watch for background and/or commits itself to a larger storyline that means future watching and it all just gets so overwhelming that I lose the motivation to start and just end up doing something else.

i mean.. yeah. that's a big part of why so many people are tired as hell of both of them at this point.

that and almost everything that's been put out since endgame (and just about everything star wars, period) has been mediocre at best.

i'll simp for loki though, he's always fun.
