I'm pretty sure Wizard Slayer is absolutely fucking terrible.

Blackguard sounds most fun but is being locked into evil worth it? Maybe if I go lawful evil.

The evil teammates are pretty useful, really.

Edwin's the best Mage in the game.

The main issue is that reputation is handled so terribly, unless they fixed it.

"Oh, this guy has a rep of like 3. He killed that village for fun. I'm gonna charge him more, fuck him."

Also, I really don't have much experience with the class, but it might be best to just let Dorn be your Blackguard and be something else.

Also fun fact: If this still operates under Shakespearean English, Blackguard is pronounced "Blaggart."

They're damn good for BG:II.

Having Keldorn available covers you for Inquisitor. Inquisitor is fucking ridiculous.

Fighter/Mage is the best class by so much it's actually stupid. Nothing beats walking up to a Dragon and murdering it's face off in one round solo

Yeah Fighter/Mages of any variety are fucking insane. Of the two OP posted, Blackguard is the only option, because Wizard Slayers are worthless.

I have a signature. Apparently this is important, but I still don't have my secret cool kid decoder ring yet.

Yeah, just straight up Half Elf multiclass Fighter/Mage. You get access to all the good midgame stuff super early in this one.

What gear type to shoot for since no spells while wearing armor

For example, who needs armor when you have Stoneskin? Whirlwind+Timestop is literally the most damage possible in the game. Lots of really broken shit

Oh

Basically roll as a straight Fighter early. Throw on armor, take it off to cast buffs before combat.

Later, you swap to quality Bracers of Armor combined with defensive buffs

Bracers of AC 3 and Robe of Vecna.

Both are in the Adventure's Mart.

Wizard Slayer is useless. Don't play it. It's worse than even basic Fighter, because it can't use magic items and accessories.

Of the Paladin Kits, Cavalier and Inquisitor are probably the best, but in BG2 you can get Keldorn who is a perfectly good Inquisitor. Undead Hunter's best immunity, Level Drain, can be covered by a Cleric casting Negative Plane Protection when Vampires are near or remedied by Lesser Restoration. And Undead in general are handled well by the anti-undead weapons like Azuredge, Daystar, and Mace of Disruption.

Fighter/Mage is good. Very powerful in the late game.

The only time I played bg2 was she's ago and I was an archer mulyiclass but can't remember, we are talking a decade at least.

I decided yo go for a dwarven defender. That defensive stance sounds mighty tasty and I kind of want a tanky type anyway.

Archer, Cavalier, Fighter/Mage, Kensai (no one has mentioned this one yet, wtf!), and Monk break the game once you hit 15+. Kensai and Fighter/Mage are all I ever play, though.

Dwarven defender is supposed to be pretty beastly too.
