It used to be the way you could tell your friends how far you were. "Oh I just started disc 2".

it was pretty cool in FF7. They linked up major plot events to the end of each disc, so before switch disks you always had some sort of "mid season finale" of sorts.

remember blowing cartridges?

That was just a myth, wasn't it?

Not that people did it, but that it worked.

It was funny switching discs with FF7, because you could use any disc (after a point) and the FMVs would be all out of order. Good times.

If the problem was caused by bad contact because of dust, which did happen, then it did work.
But your saliva could ruin it in the long run.

I never blew on them. I used a wet Q-tip and then a dry one.
I also opened my NES and used a needle to re-tighten the contact clips when they were too loose.

Remember in MGS4 when Otacon jokingly tells you to insert disc two? Then he says "oh yeah this technology is amazing because the whole game is on one disc!" But since the game uninstalls and reinstalls in between every chapter it takes way more time than just swapping discs. I love Kojima but he's a damn idiot sometimes.
